In the verse I read, Almighty Allah says: “O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided. To Allah is you return all together; then He will inform you of what you used to do.”
In the hadith sharif I read, Prophet (PBUH) says:“Fear Allah wherever you are. Follow up a bad deed with a good deed and it will blot it out. And deal with people in a good manner.” 2
The purpose of our existence is to know God, to submit Him and to live a life that suits the purpose of creation. The way to this goal is to follow the path of The Quran, to follow footsteps of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) who has been sent as a guide and mercy to the worlds, to follow the Sirat-i Mustaqim. In the surah Al-Fatiha that we read five times a day, we ask guidance from our Lord, then we make Rüku’u, Sujood and supplications. This straight path is the path of the prophets. This path has servitude, affection, submission, loyalty and sincerity. This path, leads its followers to the salvation, peace and prosperity.
We have the presence of our Lord in this way, by approving and acknowledging his unity, his eternal power and the prophethood of His blessed Messenger Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH). This is not an ordinary acknowledgement. We assumed a heavy responsibility by this Shahade (acknowledgement). By this Shahade we learnt that we are not created neglected and that we are created honored, addressee to the call of God. So it is our fundamental duty to our Lord, and to ourselves, to act responsibly towards all creatures.
My Precious Brother!
Our duty as believers, to surrender to Allah, to be a loyal servant to Him and to seek His pleasure. To beware of His disobedience as if we avoid to fall into the fire. To be sincere to His book and the Prophet He has sent.
Our responsibility to ourselves, is to use the opportunities given us by our Lord in legitimate way. To use our mind and body bestowed by Allah, our knowledge and experience, strength and power, for the goodness of humanity.
Our responsibility to our families, our relatives, our brothers is by treating them with mercy, love and compassion. To stand with them with kindness and to expect the reward of goodness we do, only from God. To protect their honor and dignity, to protect their rights. Our responsibility towards other people is to treat them with justice. To show respect to the life, property and honor of every human being as values created by God. This life makes sense if we live together. We should not forget that the world is entrusted to us.
From wastage to ill gotten gains, from defamation to the gossip, from lie to the fraud, from insulting to the persecution; All behaviors that Islam forbids are sins, besides they are samples of irresponsiblity. Violating both the rights of the people and the rights of God as well. Muslims, beware of being the instrument of evil and to be mentioned in wickedness. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) defines Muslims as; A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand Muslims are safe. 3
It is painful to see that in the garden of Human Family (World) flowers are withered, crops are parched, rivers are dried. The ones they don’t recognize the right to live for others, brutally cutting down the lives of the oppressed and innocent. Many innocents feel the absence of living humanely are loosing their homes, homelands even their lives. The sharp pain caused by the irresponsibility experienced in many areas especially in the Islamic World.
We are entitled to a civilization believed in rights and upholded the justice. We know that, no injustice, no oppression is eternal. Even an atom's weight of good or evil will be scaled. 4 As long as we are sincere with our Lord, honest with ourselves, compassionate to our kith and kins and fair towards humanity, our way will be Sirat-i Mustaqim. No one can mislead us in this way. Our Lord will exalt us if we hold the rights up.
Brothers and Sisters
Let’s open our hands in this blessed Friday alltogether and beg our Lord;
My God! Make us of those they are aware of their responsibilities.
My God! Make us of those they know the right and holding it up, and they are aware of evil and beware of it.
My God! Save us from being with tyrants and from turning away from justice.
