20.03.2015 Friday Sermon
In the verse I read Our Lord Allah says: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty."1
In the hadith I read Prophet (PBUH) says"whose good deed pleases him and whose sin saddens him is indeed a believer" "2
Brothers And Sisters!
In Islamic civilization, the goodness is the goal of existence. Lord of the heavens and earth has sent us to be good people on earth, and manage the goodness.
"Goodness" in our daily lives mostly expressed as khayr. We understand from Word "khayr" all kinds of goodness, kindness, helpfulness and all the virtuous attitudes and behaviors. "Khayr" means doing what is good. We call the voluntary organizations to help people and spreads charity “Khayr Foundations” . In Turkish, when we pass our good wishes we say "Hayırlı Olsun” (means: let it be khayr) and when we bid farewell to someone we say “hayra karşı” which means towards the khayr. We interpret the dreams to khayr. We want the khayr for our beloved ones in life and we pray with khayr when they passes away. We know every blessing is coming from Him and we say Hayırlısı Allahtan (the khayr comes from God). Hayırlı evlat is a term we use for the good childeren in family by moral values. "Hayırhâh" is the one who want the good, for else people. Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH) is "hayru'l-beşer"; He is the best of people.
According to our holy religion, it is not enough just to be good. It is not enough to be good for ourselves. It is required for all Muslims to produce the best values, to lead, to guide to virtues; to eliminate evil deeds by good deeds. Our Holy Book, heralds us; that if we act like this, even the most notorious hostility would turn into warm friendships. This is the attitude of good behaviored mature people.3
Prophet (PBUH) by saying, "Every good deed is charity”. 4 refers to the reward of goodness which have inexhaustible varieties. Prophet of mercy (PBUH) says; "O My God! made me feel the joy when I did a khayr, and made me of Your servants who turn in repent when commited an evil."5 by this supplication he encourage us to work for goodness.
We are members of a civilization that taught goodness to the earth, They had conquered the hearts with kindness. This civilization, developed the earth by the principle “survive the people to survive the state”. This civilization, equipped everywhere it reached with mosques, foundations, inns, baths, hospices, orphanages, schools, madrassas, fountains, bridges and caravanserais. Members of this civilization, has allways made their mark to be Pioneer of goodness and to be friends with good ones. Our civilization, has such a fine understanding which they made Charity Stones in order to preserve the dignity and self-esteem of the poor and needy. Our civilization, is a civilization dressed up with such a compassion that made shelters and cages to house the birds and wild beasts in cold winter days.
But what a sad that today the smell of blood and gunpowder spread from some cities that had built by good people and lands that goodness found life in. Evil is surrounding all around the world day by day. The Islamic world must renew its invitation to goodness to all humanity again. Whoever says “I am Muslim” should mobilize to dominate the goodness again in this region and in the whole world. Each believer should lead to goodness and lock the evil in his around in all aspects of his life.
My Precious Brothers!
Today, our concept of goodness, has faced two major threats. The first of these dangers is to perceive goodness for ones own benefit and profit only.
The second danger, sometimes, consciously or unconsciously, the charities that should only be given for the sake of Allah, replace with advertising and pretension.
Today in the face of these adversities, these needs to be done. It should be taken into account that the cause and purpose of existence is to glorify the human value and dignity again. Let's not forget that it is the responsibility of all of us, as believers, to mount the understandings of Islam, love, peace, compassion and justice messages into all hearts.
I want to end my sermon with the supplication of Rasul-i Ekrem (PBUH) who presented the goodness as a reason to live: "O My God! Make the life an occasions to increase all kinds of goodness for me. And make the death the reason for liberation from all kinds of evils for me! "6

And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.
But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion [of good].
